PLURIBUS / PRIVACY POLICY

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Pluribus is an independent civic-information service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any government agency.

Information We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and authentication information managed by Firebase Authentication. Passwords are processed by Firebase Authentication and are not stored in Pluribus profile records. You may provide a profile photo, biography, street address, language preference, and topics of interest. We also process app activity such as representatives and bills you follow, likes, saves, private agree/disagree opinions, ballot selections, reminders, notification state, and civic-action outcomes you choose to record. Generated or edited action scripts, personal reasons, call content, and message bodies are not saved to your civic activity. Technical logs may include device, browser, IP-derived security, error, and request information.

Apple and Google Sign-In

Where enabled, you may sign in with Apple or Google. Firebase Authentication links the provider identifier, email address, and available display name to your Pluribus account. Choosing Hide My Email with Apple lets you use an Apple relay address instead of sharing your personal email. Connecting another sign-in method requires your choice in Profile → Connected accounts; we do not automatically merge separate accounts. Deleting an Apple-linked account also revokes its Sign in with Apple authorization. Pluribus receives sign-in credentials needed to authenticate you, not your Apple or Google password.

Location and Civic Personalization

If you provide an address, we use it to resolve the jurisdictions, districts, precinct, representatives, elections, ballot contests, and voting information relevant to you. Address resolution and election lookups may use government geographic systems, the U.S. Census Geocoder, Miami-Dade County GIS, and Google Civic Information. We do not use precise background GPS tracking.

How We Use Information

We use information to operate and secure Pluribus, personalize civic information, maintain your account and preferences, deliver requested notifications, provide support, improve reliability, and comply with law. If Ask Pluribus is enabled, it asks for permission before sending your typed question, state/county context, and a small set of relevant civic-source excerpts to OpenAI to generate an answer. You can decline and continue browsing civic records. Do not put sensitive personal information in a question. We do not send your saved street address or account identifier in that request, and we do not store the question or answer in our AI usage ledger. The ledger records the time, model, request type, token counts, and estimated cost so we can enforce limits and monitor spending. Public civic text may be sent to OpenAI for summaries or translations.

Public and Private Activity

Your address, resolved districts, follows, likes, saves, opinions, ballot selections, reminders, and recorded civic-action outcomes are private to your account. Public comments are disabled in version 1: Pluribus does not accept or display comments. Opening an official public-comment website does not send content through Pluribus. Any comments submitted during earlier testing remain account-linked until deleted but are not shown to other users. Aggregate non-comment engagement counts may be displayed without identifying individual users.

Service Providers and Disclosure

We use service providers including Google Firebase for authentication, database, and file storage; Supabase for civic and account-linked data; Vercel for hosting; Expo for app delivery; and OpenAI for civic summaries, translations, and Ask Pluribus answers. If Pluribus+ purchases are enabled, Apple handles App Store billing and RevenueCat verifies subscription status for your account. We disclose information only as needed to operate those services, comply with lawful requests, protect users and Pluribus, or complete a business transition subject to this policy. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.

Retention and Deletion

We retain account information while your account is active and as reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, fraud prevention, and backup recovery. You can permanently delete your account in Profile → Privacy Settings → Delete Account. Deletion removes your account-linked profile, address, follows and topic watches, interactions, private civic-action history, AI usage metadata, any comments previously submitted during testing, notifications, and ballot selections from active systems. Deleting your Pluribus account does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it separately in Apple subscription settings. Official civic records and de-identified aggregate counts are not personal account data and may remain.

Security

We use authentication, access controls, encrypted network connections, source separation, and least-privilege service access to protect information. No system is completely secure, so please use a unique password and contact us if you believe your account has been compromised.

Children’s Privacy

Pluribus is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information.

Your Choices and Requests

You may edit profile information, change notification and language preferences, remove activity, or delete your account through the app. You may also contact us to request access, correction, or deletion. Rights vary by jurisdiction, and we may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

The Pluribus Website

The public website provides product, support, privacy, and source information without requiring an account. It does not use advertising pixels, analytics scripts, or sign-up forms. Vercel may process IP addresses, browser information, and request logs to deliver and secure the website. Emailing support shares the information you choose to send with Pluribus and our email provider. Do not send passwords, identity documents, or sensitive personal details.

Changes and Contact

We may update this policy as Pluribus changes. We will revise the date above and provide additional notice when appropriate. Questions, privacy requests, and complaints can be sent to pluribuscivicengagement@gmail.com.
